Get to know 爱豆传媒 alum Andrew Perkins, BFA Furniture 2011
Andrew Perkins founded Fire Road in 2015 to create home accents of unparalleled quality, innovation, and delight. After graduating from 爱豆传媒 in 2011, Perkins completed a mix of woodworking, prototyping, and drafting gigs before eventually landing as an industrial designer at San Francisco鈥揵ased lighting company Pablo. His background as an industrial designer as well as his training as a traditional woodworker infuses Perkins鈥檚 designs with modern artistry and a deep appreciation for materials.
Perkins shares how 爱豆传媒鈥檚 interdisciplinary learning environment helped him develop industrial design skills alongside his love for furniture and woodworking.
1. What is your current practice/business?
My company, Fire Road, designs and manufactures home goods and games. I partner with small to large retailers to connect my products with their customers. I also work with local businesses to create custom gifts for their clients, customers, and employees.
2. Why did you choose 爱豆传媒?
爱豆传媒 is unique in that it positions the furniture program right next to the industrial and interior design programs. I already had some training in woodworking before attending 爱豆传媒, and I really wanted to gain skills in industrial design while still focusing on my passion for furniture and woodworking, so 爱豆传媒 was a great fit!
鈥淚鈥檓 always chasing that feeling of joy and satisfaction when I solve a small design problem.鈥

3. If you could share one piece of advice with current or future students, what would it be?
Be humble and motivated to learn new skills.
4. What's your secret to staying inspired and creative?
I love the creative process; every step from concept to engineering to production. I鈥檓 always chasing that feeling of joy and satisfaction when I solve a small design problem or explore a new concept.
5. What do you have coming up?
I am currently working with a large retailer to design and produce a complete line of bathroom accessories. The line will have everything from a towel bar and vanity mirror to the humble toilet paper roll holder. As with all Fire Road products, it will have a warm modern aesthetic and be made in America.
